Congratulations to Christopher Eckerman, from Antigo, for being awarded the 2015 Beginning Cheesemaker Scholarship from Wisconsin Cheese Originals.

Christopher is a full-time student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison majoring in Food Science. The $2,500 scholarship will help him towards his goal of becoming a cheesemaker. Remember, Wisconsin is the only state to require cheesemakers to be licensed. To become licensed, it is an 18-month process that involves the completion of five university short courses, 240 hours of apprenticeship under a licensed cheesemaker, and passing a written exam at the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
