Old South Side Service Station Razed, Will Be Site for Seed Firm

A service station on the south side of Antigo, which has been idled for decades and had become a spot of blight in an improving neighborhood, came tumbling down Monday.

Mid-Wis-Ag Seed, a local firm operated for years by the Dieck family, purchased the former Mobil Oil station and razed it to make room for construction of a warehouse and office in the very near future.

Wayne Dieck and his son, Travis explained that for years, the Pioneer seed dealership has been operated from facilities in their home and there has been sufficient growth to promote a shift to the high profile spot on Highway 45. The service station was located just south of the intersection of Mapleview Road and Highway 45.

Heavy machinery from Krueger and Steinfest, Inc. moved onto the property early Monday, and it took only a matter of hours before it was pretty well down and removed from the site.

The building was in tough shape, Travis Dieck said. Being unused and unheated for so many years had allowed the roof to leak and rot, and the entire structure to deteriorate.

The Diecks said the new facilities will allow expansion of the products being offered by the seed firm, and offer a presence for customers to visit.

Construction of a new building is expected to begin in a matter of weeks.
