Hafner Seed Farms Reaches Centennial
Hafner Seed Farms Inc. has been honored as among the state’s most venerable agricultural operations.
The farm was highlighted at the Wisconsin State Fair as a Century Farm, one of 145 facilities recognized from across the state.
August Hafner started the farm in May 1919 in Bryant. It now covers 320 acres, focusing on potatoes and a variety of other crops.
Those attending the ceremony included Patty Hafner, Leilana Hafner, John Hafner, Deb (Hafner) Burton, Greg Hafner, Dave Hafner, Kevin Hafner and Tim Burton.
Other farms honored from this area include Barb and Mike Bruski of Wittenberg.
The Century Farm Awards Program began in 1948 as part of Wisconsin centennial celebration. It honors families who have had continuous ownership of their Wisconsin farm or home for 100 years or more.
For the past 45 years Hillshire Farm of New London has sponsored the program, now joined by Compeer Financial.
More than 9,600 Century Farms have been honored since the program’s inception.
